This past week my daughter relocated from San Diego to Kansas City (where her father & I now live) so I decided I would fly out and help her drive back. Sounded like a great idea where we could talk and share and laugh and generally have a mother-daughter bonding experience? Was I on crack when I thought this would happen?
The reality set in the first day when she screamed at me to leave her alone. I later tried to sympathize with her about how hard it was to leave some place you loved when she informed me to allow her to own her own feelings. Huh, what's a mother to do? So.....my next tactic was to set silently wondering where the nearest airport was so I could leave her to those feelings! In Albuquerque I was THIS close to bailing but I worried that might send the wrong message.
The next two days of our 3 day trip consisted of bickering alternating with no communication but most of the time we at least had music. On the last day of the trip the speakers decided to stop working so we both ended up listening to our own ipods, which in retrospect may have been a blessing in disguise.
Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter and am very glad she moved closer to us. But, the next time she moves I'll let her father do the honors.

Musings on a Saturday
I haven't written for some time so thought I'd try to come up with something interesting to tell about my life in Kansas City. My husband and I survived our first winter here but we were fairly isolated due to the snow. No, there wasn't huge amounts, and there were plenty of days where the roads were dry and you could get where you needed to go pretty easily.
I guess you might call it "self-isolation". There was alot of griping and whining about the sunshine and warm weather in San Diego and that prevented us from appreciating our good fortune in seeing the grandkids more (which is why we moved here) and connecting to all Kansas City has to offer. I found myself constantly comparing the two cities and that is never a successful strategy when one is wanting to acclimate to a new environment.
So, now it is spring, the days are warmer, the sun is shining and now it's time to start to enjoying the experience of being back in the Midwest but with a different twist. Kansas City here I come....
